The Benefits
The Managed Storage-on-Demand service is based around the implementation of a high-performance Storage Area Network, designed to accommodate dynamic data growth under a structured on-demand utility payment contract, located on the client site and remotely managed from Q Associates datacentre support facility.
  • Utilization of high-end data management products provides the ultimate storage platform combining performance, availability and scalability, with wide ranging support for most hardware and application/database software.
  • Further resilience is provided through the use of local online tape backup, ensuring high-performance file restore in the event of data loss, with SAN-attached backup provided to reduce the load on the client LAN/WAN.
  • Whilst the primary copy of backup data is located on the client site and managed remotely via a dedicated secure link, supplementary services covering replication of the backup to a secondary datacentre or DR site can be provided.
  • As with the Remote Online Backup Service, Storage-on-Demand provides clients with the ability to re-deploy valuable IT resources in line with business objectives.
  • Budget planning can be simplified through an identified monthly service charge and clients can produce internal charge-back models within their own organisation based on specific departmental data storage usage.

Engagement Process:

  • Initial Engagement -  Q Associates consultants will provide a comprehensive overview of the Storage-on-Demand Service and undertake full technical qualification to confirm project viability.
  • Project Definition Workshop - Technical and commercial workshops are then committed to as part of the solution design process, from which a formal proposal can be presented, prior to commitment to contract.
  • Solution Design - Architecture is proposed to accommodate full support for existing and forecast data growth requirements and provided on a pay-as-you-use utility basis.
  • Design Architecture (Primary-Site SAN) - Configuration of a high-performance, resilient and scalable Storage Area Network, with multi-vendor application/database support for Windows NT, Windows 2000 and UNIX servers.
  • Design Architecture (Primary-Site Backup) - Full backup environment, including SAN attached tape library and management software, with defined regimes, to support agreed service levels for file/system restores.
  • Design Architecture (Remote Management) - Implementation of a dedicated private link between primary site and Q Associates administration centre to facilitate remote management of SAN/backup environment.
  • Design Architecture (Secondary-Site SAN) - Optional implementation of identical SAN environment at Q Associates' datacentre to provide secondary online replication of data at an off-site location.
  • Design Architecture (Secondary-Site Backup) - As per Primary Site.
  • Design Architecture (Secondary-Site Private LAN Extension) - Installation of high performance (Fast/Gigabit Ethernet) connectivity providing resilient private link between primary and secondary-site SANs.
  • Contract Support - Skilled customer support staff administer and maintain guaranteed service levels, with bi-monthly client-site meetings to assess contract performance and accommodate change control processes, as appropriate.
